The annual struggle – what to get Mom for Mother’s Day … I am so blessed to still have my Mom – she’s happy, healthy and definitely a piece of work. She lives in an independent living facility in my hometown in Mississippi and loves her life there. Don’t get me wrong, she’d like to still be driving herself around, but at the age of 88, it’s best for that not to happen :).
Every year at this time, my sister and I get on the phone and try to decide what we should get her. She basically has everything she needs, but definitely likes to be thought of on special days. We usually try to visit her on the weekend of Mother’s Day if at all possible and present her with a sweet or funny card (she probably prefers the funny ones) and usually some kind of gift card. She’ll end up keeping that gift card for months, so it’s pretty anti-climactic. We gave her a vacuum cleaner one year, she had seen one she liked that was small enough for her to handle – but somehow that just didn’t feel very good.
My Mom loves candies and cookies. She’s not a big eater, really could care less about food, but she loves her sweets. This year, I’m giving my Mom sweets – you guessed it, from Sweenky Sweets. She’s tried all of the fudge flavors and is very fond of each one (she likes Cinnamon best). She really loves the caramels as well, but when she was visiting at Easter, she tried Jeff’s Pralines – now she has a new favorite! Did I mention that she loves sweets?
Young or old, Moms love a sweet treat and especially candies that are handcrafted and shipped right to her door. Even if your Mom is watching her weight, you know she needs and wants a sweet goodie every now and then. If your Momma is fond of sweets, click here to place an order for your Mom.
Jeff learned to make all these candies from his Mom and Grandma. His Mom was one of 7 kids and Jeff is one of 6, so there were always plenty of mouths around to enjoy the sweetness. He watched and learned and developed an enormous sweet tooth in the process. These recipes are the real thing, no microwaving and only the freshest ingredients. This stuff is good y’all!
